"We chose Dan and his team after seeing a friend's house that he had worked on. We chose him partly because he was willing to take the time to go through each part of his quote and break it down for us, and negotiate with us on what was essential and what could wait till later (to suit our budget, which was tight). He was a bit more expensive than other quotes but his quality of work and speed makes this worth it, in my opinion. We had previously been quoted 6-7 months for the same scope of work, at a costs plus rate rather than fixed, but Dan did the job in 3 months on a fixed costs contract. Our renovation was to gut the downstairs part of our two-storey brick house in Lane Cove,take out internal walls (replacing with structural beams), remove an external wall to incorporate what had previously been an outdoor laundry / toilet, lay down a new concrete slab for the extension, then put in a new kitchen, bathroom, laundry, new wooden floors, all new gyprock on the walls, new light fittings, new ceilings. Dan did all this work and went above and beyond, including removing a rotting support post and gyprock sections that hadn't originally been quoted (without charge) to do a better quality job. We were extremely happy with the quality of his work and have recommended him to friends. I think he is very trustworthy and he was always honest with us in explaining changes and things that had gone wrong. I wouldn't hesitate to choose Dan again if we had another building project". "We engaged Capital Building and Design after we had seen the very successful outcome of a full renovation at a friends' house. When asking Dan (main guy) for a quote, we were surprised by the ambitious time frame he proposed - he cut what others quoted as a 5-month job in half. And with the building work now finished, I can happily say that Dan managed to pull it off. Throughout the whole process, we really liked Dan's attention to detail, and his no-compromise attitude towards work that didn't live up to his standards. There were times when the other tradespeople he had contracted didn't do a good job, and he always dealt with this promptly and without delay. During the renovation works, we actually still lived in the house, and Dan and his team were great in ensuring that the site was secure. Every morning, we would have a quick chat with him before we left the house. Dan used those chats to give us an honest update on the work that had been done the day before, the work he was planning on doing today, and any sort of decisions we needed to make to have the work progress nicely. Dan was always happy to explain concepts and types of work we were not familiar with, so we learned a lot in the process :) Dan was also happy to interact with and coordinate tradespeople we had called in, and he made sure their services worked with his schedule.
